Matthew was born in London.
After attending his first symphony as a child (Dvorak’s New World at
Bournemouth Winter Gardens), Matthew joined his school orchestra and
has continued to enjoy playing all kinds of music
on the flute ever
education was at Bryanston School, Blandford Forum, Dorset, then at
Hammersmith & West London College. He went on to take a degree at the
University of Bristol
in Humanities (English Literature & Philosophy), and then a part-MA in
professional broadcasting practice at the University of Teesside.
early career was in the management of live theatre and dance, and he is
now a freelance
media professional. He has worked with many music groups,
including those in the charity and voluntary sectors.
achievements include drama and documentary work for BBC Television and
feature film work for the British Film Institute. He is an award-winning
director for Channel Four Television.
Matthew now lives in South Shields and runs his own company, Burge
Surtees Associates Limited, Tyne & Wear, UK, focussing on management
of creative projects, digital media, and evaluation of social impact.
