Joy Lowther

Joy learned to play the violin at school in Scotland, where she became leader of her school orchestra.

Her training in primary teaching, eventually brought her to Sunderland, where she utilised her interests to develop school music in her own schools and in the local authority.

After retiring from Headship in 2008, she decided to resurrect her rusty playing skills by joining SSO, where she is enjoying personal challenge and reward from working with new friends.

She is also a member of the Caedmon Choir in Gateshead, loves any exercise, especially out of doors and likes visiting new places.
