Mark Greenfield

Mark is a founder member, trustee and Honorary Vice President of the Sunderland Symphony Orchestra. He was one of the three Councillors for the, then, Thornholme Ward who had the vision of a long term project and lasting legacy to commemorate the New Millennium that would develop the musical potential of people in Sunderland. The project was developed following the Local Authority decision in 1999 to withdraw funding for the Schools Music Service and the City Youth Orchestra.

Mark is a former Senior Lecturer in Nursing at Northumbria University and previously to that a Nurse Tutor at Sunderland School of Nursing.

Mark served as a Councillor in Sunderland for a period of 26 years until 2006. He was conferred as a City Alderman in 2014.

He loves the game of cricket and is a keen and enthusiastic supporter of Durham County Cricket Club. He enjoys attending live Jazz sessions, liking all genres of Jazz but has his favourites ranging from Artie Shaw, Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Evans and Amy Winehouse.
