Musical Director

David MIlner



David comes from Middlesbrough, and started his musical career as a tenor horn player with the Cargo Fleet Steelworks Band in the1960ís.


In 1970 he joined the Band of HM Life Guards as a French horn & cello player, studying at The Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, and also at The Royal Academy of Music.

He has played in many ceremonial occasions including Trooping the Colour.


On leaving the Army he became a police officer in the mounted section of the Northumbria Police Force, for ten years.


He is now a peripatetic music teacher working for three local authorities, and has been the

Musical Director for the Newcastle Concert Band for over 25 years.


Having played French horn in the orchestra on numerous occasions, David took over as Musical Director and Principal Conductor in July 2018.
